Alpha-Bank is prepared to reorganize problem banks both individually and jointly with the Bank of Russia, Alpha Bank’s president Pyotr Aven has announced.
According to Aven, Alpha-Bank possesses enough resources to purchase either entire banks or their assets only. If a larger amount of liquidity will be needed to reorganize a bank than possessed by Alpha-Bank, it may consider uniting its efforts with the Central Bank.
“The Government is interested in assisting Alpha-Bank because otherwise the state will have to cover the debts of bankrupt banks,” said Olga Belenkaya, deputy head of Sovlink Company’s analytical department.
