African hog cholera has been spreading over the farms of Stavropol Region for several weeks now. The local veterinary service has registered loss of pigs in several districts of the region. Tests have confirmed that the pigs contracted a virus of African hog cholera. The local authorities are planning to impose quarantine in Stavropol Region and prohibit imports and exports of cattle.

Governor Valery Gayevsky has addressed the farmers requesting them to follow veterinary norms. The neighboring Rostov and Krasnodar Regions are introducing additional sanitary control measures on their territories.
