Russian Reporter magazine is searching for Russia’s most beautiful woman. There is a whole industry of beauty, but it imposes its products on us – the heroines of glossy covers. Our mission is to find out who the public really likes, regardless of authoritarian glamour. First, with the help of sociologists from the Institute for Comparative Social Research, we asked experts on women’s beauty, from the heads of model agencies to plastic surgeons, to list the most beautiful women in Russia. A list of 83 beauties was drawn up. Sociologists from the Public Opinion Fund are currently carrying out a survey so that the public can choose one of them. The results will be published on 6 March in Russian Reporter magazine. Readers of Expert Online can choose their own beauty ahead of the survey. We hope that the choice will be honest one, dictated by participants’ appearances rather than by their status or the frequency with which they appear in the press. Readers’ opinions are very important: we would like to understand the real, rather than imposed, ideal of beauty in Russia. The general sponsor of the project is the company Faberlic.
